“Summer body”

Summer is a time when many people want to look and feel their best. Unfortunately, for some individuals, this desire can lead to the development of eating disorders. As an eating disorder specialist, I have seen firsthand the impact that these disorders can have on a person's health and well-being. In this blog post, I will discuss some of the ways that “summer bodies” and eating disorders are related, and offer some tips for staying healthy not only in the summer months but in the subsequent seasons.

First of all, it's important to note that there is no one "perfect" summer body. Everyone's body is different, and what looks good on one person may not look good on another. The pressure to have a certain type of body is overwhelming, especially during the summer months when there is more pressure to wear revealing clothing like swimsuits and shorts. For some individuals, this pressure can lead to disordered eating behaviors, such as restrictive diets, excessive exercise, and other compensatory behaviors.

In addition to seeking professional help, there are some things you can do to maintain wellness. First and foremost, it's important to listen to your body. Pay attention to your hunger and fullness cues, and eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full. Avoid restrictive diets or extreme exercise routines, as these can be harmful to your health. Focus on incorporating healthy habits into your daily routine. This might include things like eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and getting regular exercise that you enjoy.
